The weekend coffee should be rotating, and located at a far distance, like Beans in the Belfry or King St Coffee (Leesberg). I normally find my way to Java Shack. But missing from the list is of course St Elmo's Coffee. Now that's a good ride destination!

Is there a separate thread for each of these meetups?

I'm interested in stopping by the Friday coffee club tomorrow in Arlington, but don't want to wake up early if noone will be there!

Mostly looking for some people to offer fit advice on my new hybrid that I'm having issues with.

I believe Friday Coffee Club will be at The Coffee Bar (1201 S St NW) instead of Swings THIS WEEK ONLY because Swings is closed for the 4th.

Can't help you with Saturdays, but Monday...

Would there be any interest from PGish/MoCoesque folks in a regular Monday coffeeclub at Vigilante in Hyattsville? It's right off the Trolly Trail and Route 1, just north of the NE/NW Branch intersection, for those who have never been there before. They're insanely bikefriendly (Chris, their owner, is a bikecommuter himself, riding in from DC) and have coffee good enough to make even me willingly deal with mornings.

This morning we met at the new Cafe Kindred (https://www.facebook.com/cafekindred) on Lee Blvd just west of the WOD. The food was awesome, the coffee strong and tasty… all in all it's a wonderful place in a good location. I returned later with my wife after my appointment and got chatting to the owner(s) (she works the counter and her husband is the chef)… they loved that we showed up this morning and will make sure staff is on hand for future Tuesday mornings. I say we make this a permanent stop on the weekly coffee tours…. I know I'll be back, that ham and cheese croissant is still making my mouth water!

Totally plan on making this a weekly occurrence preceded by the 6am hill circuit. After all doing that makes having these less problematic.

If a jersey costs x and a Rapha jersey costs 4x, calculate the savings of a Rapha jersey costing .6(4x). Hmmm... Maybe I'll wait for an Assos sale and really save some bucks.

I'm not concerned with absolute cost, I'm concerned with absolute savings. The concept is best understood with the statement "but it was On Sale!"

40% off $200 is a savings of $80, while 40% off $250 is a savings of $100. The more expensive item is therefore a better deal in On Sale logic even though it costs more.

Just wondering if anyone is planning to do Coffee Club over these next few days....

Not to suggest that anyone might wish a little two-wheeled escape from the joys of family togetherness. :)

Is there a Friday Coffee Club at Northside Social? Saw a bunch of bikes locked up there around 8:00am today. I suppose that I could have stopped and asked one of the lycra-clad folks sitting outside, but was in a hurry to get into work.

There are a couple of groups of cyclists who meet there, but there's not a forum-affiliated or bike-DC coffee club. Probably roadies; you'd have to be jumped-in gang style to join them.

It's happened three weeks in a row. Today, despite the rain, there was an all-star showing. Let's officially call it a Thing and put it on the sticky so more will join the fun!

Lattes and cold brew on DRAFT, espresso drinks, juice bar. Hot breakfast bar and pastries. Nuun tablets in a bin by the register. Outdoor seating. Easy route into DC via Long Bridge Drive past the Pentagon. Good company and commuting caravans. What's not to like?

Credit to ArlingtonRider for making it happen, and Judd for the acronym.

Actually, I don't get credit for any of this, except perhaps for suggesting that the WTF prefix originated by LSG could stand for a variety of things, with the more common meaning being my favorite. :) I believe that Ian and Judd came up with the idea for making this a coffee club venue, Ed suggested Thursdays, and Gina wrote a great post this morning to invite everyone to join us, so all credit goes to them!

It was rare when I made it to Swings, and I have yet to make it to A Baked Joint. I work from home in College Park, and I intended to go this morning, but I knew today was going to be busy with calls so I wouldn't have had time to get down there and back.

However, I was able to meet some people for coffee up here and get a few miles under my belt before jumping into the drudge :)

I inaugurated the Frankfurt am Main edition of the Coffee club this week. Of course it doesn't happen on the same day each week, at the same place, or even at the same time. This week we were Wednesday at Schäfer in Oberursel and today (Friday) at the Glöcken in Offenbach hafen by their bike counter momolith (we were numbers 895, 896, and 897 at around 12:15 pm).

Belated posting of last week's Friday Coffee Club II at the Java Shack at which the discussion meandered between @SarahBee upcoming bicycle infraction(s) hearing, @wheelsandwings bee encounters, @Boomer2U dirty ball bearings, @Kurt crotch muffins and @SteveO snarkiness. Had you attended, we would've overanalyze you, too, so you won't want to miss next week's edition!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170801/ef9829a12e7b47311a92d007bd0e6a64.jpg

Yep. This was my 12th out of 13 "official" coffee clubs. The farthest one away for me.

Me and Mr. Happy on the way there. Lovely morning for a ride!

I'm fairly new to the forum and saw the May 2017 edition of the weekday coffee clubs. Are there any updates to that list considering the warm months are coming to an end?

Would anyone be interested in joining a daily early-riser club in Rosslyn, Navy Yard, or the up-and-coming wharf?

List looked current to me. The Tuesday Crystal City Coffee Club eventually moves to Cosi when it gets cold (which is also the gross weather location.) The other clubs all continue through the winter since they have indoor locations. Usually, the best way to do these is create a post saying where you'll be and when and see who shows up. The early-riser coffee clubs like 6 a.m. or 6:30 a.m. tend to have lower attendance, because waking up that early is gross. 7:15 seems to be the sweet spot for people showing up at the clubs I go to.

The Velocafe is opening on the Wharf and I was thinking about having a one off coffee club there in the next week or two.

Sounds like a grand opportunity to compare the number of riders versus the number of walkers in the PBL while sipping a caffeinated beverage ;) #NotAmsterdam #ACoffeeClubTooFar #MyRouteIsLinedWithCoffeeClubsHowCanISayNo

Thanks all,

Sounds great to me I'll be there. Taking your input into account, I'm fine with 7am if you can provide a good day to kick this off, I'll probably just start hanging out there about that time once it opens on or about Thursday or Friday morning. Seems like a great location since it is a nexus for inbound DC traffic from Capital Crescent, Memorial Bridge, and 14th St Bridge.

I can't speak for daily, but I do know that the Rosslyn Friday Coffee Club has an early contingent

Only if its during 2017 Coffeeneuring and announced well-enough in advance I can work it into my schedule (and not already have two for that week ;))

Hi Kitty, where in Rosslyn and at what time? I'd be up for making an appearance this Friday in Rosslyn. Also, I intend to start a daily 7am coffee club at Velo Café at the wharf, but an RSVP would definitely help me prioritize to make it happen in accordance with your schedule.

I would discourage the idea of a Rosslyn Friday Coffee Club, since there is already one just up the street in Courthouse. A different day would be better. There are currently 4 Friday Coffee Clubs. Any new ones should probably be strategically located not too close to existing ones. That said, I believe Kitty has her own, private Rosslyn Coffee Club at whim.

Steve O, understood I was aware of the one near Courthouse but was interested if they had another existing nearby, I agree with your position and will attend FCC II at one point.

Kitty, if you are open for this Friday in the Rosslyn area give me the time and place and I'll make it.

Sorry, that was my bad. I think because the one at Java Shack is so close to home (which is in Rosslyn) I think of it as being in Rosslyn, so that's what I was referring to. Steve-O is correct: it is in Courthouse. (See what happens once I stop riding the Metro?)

As for me, I'm afraid I'm not dependable for an early anything on Friday mornings. I have a longstanding commitment on Thursday nights that keeps me in the city very late. Sorry for the confusion!!! n(-.-)n

I did some recon this morning hoping to be Patient Zero at the Velo Café at the wharf since today is the wharf's grand opening and hours were listed as 7AM. Velo Cafe had boxes lying about and an unfinished interior, I'd give them at least a week. I'm confused though because their website says they would have a running coaching session this afternoon, I'll have to swing by later. If anyone has any info on the opening date for the cafe I'd be happy to know.

I stopped by Velo Café the other day and found out they do not sell anything that I can consume since I am sweets/caffeine/alcohol free. I may make an appearance with some home-brewed tea and a snack but will not frequent the place for anything but social events until they increase variety of offerings.

If it is anywhere near as cold as today, I will be wearing a Performance Bike jacket which looks like it needs cleaning. Also I will probably be wandering around trying to figure out where I can lock up my bike (probably a 2014 Trek Domane 4.3) in sight of the café, and I will be just as short as and slightly older than today. :D

Is anyone else thinking about being there?

Nice to meet Lordofthemark and SpaceJockey. If anyone intends to go to the Velo Café, note that as of now it only opens at 8 AM and then only the window where they sell. The inside doesn't open until 9 AM. I assume this will eventually change.

As is typical for me I got there early and tested the bikeometer before the others arrived. It only registers if you go in front of it. If you go behind it or cross the street at that point you will be missed, so if the object is to figure out how many people use the LBP, it is badly undercounting and should have been placed slightly northwest of where it is. It will be a better indication when the LBP continues southeastward..

Swing's is shut down for reconstruction. FCC I is at A Baked Joint as shown on the FS calendar (https://calendar.google.com/calendar?cid=dnNzMGFsb2ViaTg1dTlkYzlzaGlodWVnMG9AZ 3JvdXAuY2FsZW5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ)
Velo Cafe does not open early enough (yet) for a typical commuter coffee club. However, there's a happy hour there tonight.

Updated in the forum’s calendar listing: Lazy Mike’s, 7049 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22046. Interesting to note that their website still lists the old name and address...

Monday Morning Pancake Club
Mondays, 7:30 until adequately pancaked
Lazy Mike's

Someone perhaps pre-caffeinated left an odd note at the door of Lazy Mikes this morn, confusing and confounding the staff. It said something along the lines of it being approximately 7.03 am yet Lazy Mikes was closed. Scrawled on the remains of what appears to be a priority post, the staff was less then sure how to take this. Was this a manifesto of the Liberation Pancake Front? Should they report this to the Department of Just-Ice Cream?

Lazy Mike came up to me himself and said “We be like open at 7.30 am just like we always open at 7.30 am - should we worry this manifesto left at our door?”

It was agreed this morning that WTFCC should move back to the Eads St. Whole Foods on Thursdays from here out.
The Stand has basically abandoned us at the CC waterpark, and the weather is endlessly crappy, so it makes sense.

The foul weather location for the Tuesday Crystal City Coffee Club was the Cosi restaurant a couple blocks south of the waterpark. At least it was when it was last too cold to be at the waterpark.

That’s a misnomer. Maxwell is my commuter bike which is named after the Beatles song. I haven’t added the new bike to Strava yet, but I’ve been calling it the Silver Bullet, maybe in homage to Bob Seger.

In celebration of Bobco's visit from Seattle, this Thursday, May 2, I will host the Thursday morning Pentagon City Coffee Club (aka WTF Coffee Club) at my house.
Don't go to Whole Foods. Come to my place instead.
Please don't arrive before 7:05 am.

Everyone is welcome, regulars, irregulars and newbies. You may bring your own coffee or take your chances on mine. I'll have some pastries.

1663 S. Hayes St.
Do not go to the front, though. Meet at the back patio.

Here:
20021

From 18th St. South/S Hayes St, jog onto the sidewalk at the first curb cut west of Fern St.
Pass the first set of condos on your right.
Turn right onto the grassy area between the buildings. There's a bit of a short, steep hill, so you may want to walk your bike.
Come back about 50 yards. Look for the patio with the red Nationals, Curly W flag.

I was all set to make this my first-ever coffee club attendance... even prepared to be a little late to work as a result. Til I remembered I had a conflicting dr's appt in N. Arlington this morning.

Generally, the starting times of the existing C.C.'s (as shown on the Google Calendar) don't work well with my necessary office-arrival time of 7:35.
The Shirlington Best Buns Wednesdays would be the ideal C.C. to participate in (right off the path to work) -- but the 7:10 start time means I'd arrive, skip any coffee, get 60 seconds to say hi to whoever was on hand exactly right then and then have to leave.
The worst bit is no coffee / socializing in that scenario! Are there any regulars who currently hit the Shirlington gathering, but routinely arrive between 6:30 and 7:00?

Also - are there any folks on routes favorable to Potomac Yard, to consider a coffee club gathering at the Potomac Yard Starbucks?

(BTW -- where exactly is the Crystal City Coffee Club meeting point on Tuesdays? The Calendar entry only says: "Bring your coffee or buy it from nearby. Winter location is at Cosi nearby." Nearby to what??)

CCCC was started at the Crystal City Water Park - here

The winter location is this Cosi's on Crystal Drive

https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8555436,-77.0493369,3a,75y,86.78h,75.55t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sQLHRUze2pltkAriXVWw1SQ!2e0!6s% 2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DQLHRUze2pltkA riXVWw1SQ%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dsearc h.TACTILE.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D96%26h%3D64%26yaw% 3D179.97284%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8 i6656

This past Tuesday, however, we were at an outdoor table near the Cosi's instead of at the Waterpark.

Crystal City - a place of change and growth!

You can try the Georgetown Early Bird Coffee Club at Saxby's on Thursdays. They meet at about 6am and depart before 7.
Also, feel free to show up at Best Buns at 6:45 for a few weeks. The other early arrivers will likely notice and start coming earlier, since they know they won't be alone.

The most recent "official" list is here (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?7078-Weekly-Coffee-Gatherings&p=174825#post174825), although the Java Shack Friday one is pretty much defunct. This should be similar to what is shown on the calendar.

I'm not sure where the precision of 7:10 came from for HDCC at Best Buns, but I tend to get there a bit before 7:00, especially in the Summer when I don't have to find as much clothing to wear.

One of the reasons I’ve never considered making one of these is because I’m also an early bird.

Also - are there any folks on routes favorable to Potomac Yard, to consider a coffee club gathering at the Potomac Yard Starbucks?

My commute to Crystal City takes me through Potomac Yards. Which Starbucks did you mean? The one across from the Toyota dealer?

You can try the Georgetown Early Bird Coffee Club at Saxby's on Thursdays. They meet at about 6am and depart before 7.

Thanks but that one's too far afield from my work route.

Yes, I was specifically thinking the Starbucks across Rt 1 from Jack Taylor Toyota, since it has some outdoor seating (for nice weather) as well as a large common table inside.
(EDIT: Though it has no bike racks - I always end up locking up to one of the handicapped parking-space sign posts.)

I'm not sure where the precision of 7:10 came from for HDCC at Best Buns, but I tend to get there a bit before 7:00...

My guess is they are on the Google Calendar with such specific start times, to create a "stepped" presentation visually -- so that they more visually stand out from one another when they overlap... vs. any agreed-upon formal starting time...

Nector Coffee & Wine Bistro at Hume & Mt. Vernon & Commonwealth

I could swing that without overshooting the office much at all. I currently pass directly by the Starbucks on my bike route, which is why it sprang to mind.
(Red route = normal path. Orange route if trying Nector)

IMO, in an ideal world, coffee isn't obtained from somewhere along your shortest commute. It's a lot better if you go out to Leesburg or somewhere similar.

The 7:10 start time was established back when HDCC started in 2013. There also used to be a Rebel Coffee Club that met at the same time on Wednesdays at Java Shack, but they've gone underground or something.

Yes, in an ideal world...!
In this world alas, while a coffee stop doesn't have to be on my shortest route to work, it realistically can't be part of a total detour greater than probably 5 miles.

I’m with you - it’s a rare day I get to attend coffee club bc of my early start time (I’m at work by 7am!). So even the Georgetown early birds are still a little late for me (gotta get to work by 6:30am to change & get ready). I don’t think anyone is interested in a 5:30 CC. [emoji23]

Woohoo ... have tomorrow off...!
So, as I keep forgetting to adjust on Wednesday and visit the Shirlington club on the way into work, I'm gonna try and drop in on the Arlington Coffee Club at Northside Social... anyone gonna be there?

(Then gonna try and drop in on the Crystal City Fridays Waterpark, if I finish all my chores in time...)

Look for rcannon; he's usually there. Tall guy with a big beard. Josh sometimes shows up, too. The others who are usually there are not as active on the forum as they used to be and people you likely have not met. Subby (Chris Shue) is wonderfully friendly and will make you feel welcome I'm sure. Likewise with GB (Greg Bain) if he is there. Just introduce yourself.

I will likely be at FCC Swing's.

Appreciate the assimilation but the small group of us who have coffee on Fridays is not a "Coffee Club." The Friday Coffee Club is, or was, at Java Shack. Have coffee where ever you like.... but please consider the etiquette of crashing some else's social experience.

Next Thursday's Pentagon City Coffee Club will be the second SOAP Triple C (Steve O's Alternate Pentagon City Coffee Club). It will be held at my house rather than at Whole Foods.
So don't go to Whole Foods (pulled.hogs.winter (https://what3words.com/pulled.hogs.winter)). Instead go to camp.filled.spicy (https://what3words.com/camp.filled.spicy)

Please don't arrive before 7:05 am.

Everyone is welcome, regulars, irregulars and newbies (even rcannon100, who, despite the impression he may have just made, is actually a pretty nice guy). You may bring your own coffee or take your chances on mine. I'll have some pastries.

1663 S. Hayes St.
Do not go to the front. Meet at the back patio. Or, more precisely: camp.filled.spicy (https://what3words.com/camp.filled.spicy)

Come to FCC at Swings instead! Everyone is welcome, the patio furniture is back so we're once again sitting in the breezeway, and it's a good chance to meet riders who live in DC and MD. Plus, if you're got time to linger, my understanding is that the late shift usually sticks around for a while after we ordinary working schmoes have to leave for the office.
