View Full Version : Bike Maintenance Classes in Arlington & Fairfax Counties

Adult education programs in Arlington and Fairfax Counties are separately sponsoring two bicycle maintenance courses taught by Allen Muchnick. All classes meet on weekday evenings from 6:30-9:30 PM.

The two courses are:

* Bicycle Maintenance & Repair, a 3-hour lecture and demonstration; and

* Bicycle Mechanics Workshop, a 3-hour hands-on sequel to any course listed above.

BICYCLE MECHANICS WORKSHOP. This self-directed, hands-on sequel to any other bicycle class lets you tune up, fix, or modify your bicycle or practice inspection, maintenance, or repair procedures. Bring bike(s), supplies, and inspiration. One 3-hour session.

I'll give my recommendation for these classes. I did the series a couple of years ago when I moved to Arlington and started riding a lot. I'm still a pretty crappy mechanic, but that's not Allen's fault. At least now I have a clue about what needs to be done and I can talk somewhat intelligently to the real mechanic.

I'm registered for the bike maintenance course on January 18, and the bike mechanics workshop on Feb. 23. It would be fun to have some other forum members join me! I took one of Allen's city cycling courses back in 1998, and still appreciate all that I learned there.
