It's mid week, so it's time for our next Freezing Saddles Side Bet! For this challenge " Find the Founding Fathers", we will not be competing in teams, nor will there be any benefit to being in one state over another. FSSB #3 will be in the format of a photo meme, so get those cameras ready. To complete the tasks of FSSB #3, you will have to ride your bike to a place, any place that mentions, alludes to, honors, is named for, or could be perceived to represent one of President of the United States. Take a picture of your bike with that location and post it on the forum. The trick (there is always a trick) is that you have to post a photo of the presidential items in order from Washington to Obama. For example I have posted a photo of my bike at the "Washington Marina". Once you post your photo write the name of the president in the text section. like this:

4478
WASHINGTON

Feel free to be as obvious or as obscure as you like. I could have posted a photo of the Washington Monument, or even the Masonic Temple. Be creative. To be able to go on to the next president, at least 3 forum people have to "like" the post. Other rules, Washington was easy (the entire town is named for him) so I took it to start the process, once we get 3 likes we can move on to "John Adams" If you have a better photo and the current one doesn't have 3 likes, then by all means make the steal. The White house or other POTUS site that is not specific to any one president will not work. There only needs to be one photo for each president, you don't have to post your own list of presidents, just the next one in order. Multiple presidents in one photo are okay, but you only get credit for the next one. You have to have at least 1 bike in the picture. The picture has to be taken starting today. Also, the name in question doesn't actually have to be "written" in the photo like "Washington" in Washington Marina was. Nicknames are also acceptable. Have fun and remember it's all for fun. We are already winners!

So, does the photo have to include both first and last names, or just last? I'm thinking, for example, that since there is no John Adams memorial, the contest may be quite short if we have to find something with "John Adams" in it. On the other hand, the Washington Marina doesn't include "George" in it. If the last name is enough, I'm sure we could find plenty of things around here that had just "Adams" in them.

And is "could be perceived to represent" broad enough to include things not actually named after a President, but after someone else with the same surname?

Last names are okay, First names are a little weak (John probably won't get three likes), obscure first or middle names that can be attributed to the president are fine - "Millhouse, Quincy, Dubbya" it can even be a place that the president is obviously linked to. Chicanery and Obfuscation are encouraged.

Fair game, but if not creative enough it may not get 3 likes.

Getting a sufficient number of dislikes might eliminate a post from a thread. Would this not throw a wrench in these matters?

Good point Dismal, new rule, 3 more likes than dislikes, and once we/ve moved on to the next President, we've moved on. Post an Adams photo and it doesn't matter how many dislikes my Washington gets.

Absolutely! Come on down. I've got one guest room and one sleeper sofa plus lots of floor space.

I already registered dave and myself and another friend is joining us as well. Our place is about 6 miles from the start of the Williamsburg rides so LY we just rode from our house and turned the 50 miler into a metric.

Seriously, if you are interested in joining us let me know. We love sharing our get away place!

Could we get a third like so we can move on???

The eight suspects [in lincoln's assassination] were tried by a military tribunal ordered by then-President Andrew Johnson on May 1, 1865. The nine-member commission was presided over by Major General David Hunter. The other eight voting members were Major General Lew Wallace, Brigadier Generals Robert Sanford Foster, Thomas Maley Harris, Albion P. Howe, and August Kautz, Colonels James A. Ekin and Charles H. Tompkins, and Lieutenant Colonel David Ramsay Clendenin. The prosecution team was led by U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt, assisted by Congressman John A. Bingham and Major Henry Lawrence Burnett.[81] The transcript of the trial was recorded by Benn Pitman and several assistants, and was published in 1865.[82] The fact that they were tried by a military tribunal provoked criticism from both Edward Bates and Gideon Welles, who believed that a civil court should have presided. Attorney General James Speed, on the other hand, justified the use of a military tribunal on grounds that included the military nature of the conspiracy, that the defendants acted as enemy combatants and the existence of martial law in the District of Columbia. (In 1866, in the Ex parte Milligan decision, the United States Supreme Court banned the use of military tribunals in places where civil courts were operational.)[83] The odds were further stacked against the defendants by rules that required only a simple majority of the officer jury for a guilty verdict and a two-thirds majority for a death sentence. Nor could the defendants appeal to anyone other than President Johnson.

I chose this view of the WWII memorial bc it is where my grandfather served. Below is a picture of my grandfather in China teaching the Chinese artillery.

Way to play the my-grandfather-served-in-WWII card!

I am named after him. I aint too proud. He served under Vinegar Joe Stillwell. Together they saw more front line action then any other WWII command. Their job was to keep the Japanese busy until Europe was solved. After the war he served in Turkey as part of the Cold War and had a dog name Pang. He ended as the commander of the 6th Army, stationed at the Presidio. They had a beautiful house up on the cliffs, next to Jefferson Starship.

Umm... 100 years ago, the South was definitely not voting Republican...

(There may have been a few Republican victors during Reconstruction, but the South was solidly Democrat through the 1970s.)

Oh, c'mon, this wasn't even taken during Freezing Saddles. Note the shorts and summer grass.

cvcalhoun took a somewhat unsatisfying photo of the RRB. I liked it given the paucity of anything else. BTW - it's an enormous building right in downtown DC. Certainly someone could get a photogenic shot of it with their bike.

I'm surprised rcannon didn't go by the airport and get his bike with the statue of Ron out front.
