Hello. I will be visiting the DC/Arlington area in May and was mapping out a few bike rides. My hotel is in Arlington near GW University and I was mapping a ride to DC via the Arlington Cemetery.
Can anyone tell me if the gates to the cemetery at either the McNair Road/Farragut Drive OR Grant/Hobson Drive intersections are open for cyclists to ride through? When viewing the satalite of these intersections on Google maps, it looks like there might be gates here?
I'm trying to find the most direct route to the Tombs of the Unknowns from the west side of the cemetery (McNair Road) and then continue through the cemetery to the east and into DC.

I can't answer directly, but I'm sure if you call them and specify that you are visiting a gravesite/tomb, they can let you know the rules and routes. My understanding from past experience is that they do not like cyclists touring or commuting through, but I was advised by the staff there a few years ago that I was allowed to pedal the bike to the roadside adjacent to my grandfather's grave site if I was visiting.

I have only ridden in Arlington to visit specific gravesites, but based on that experience, I can tell you that you have to have a pass to enter the cemetery with a bike, just as you would for a car or motorcycle. Here is a link to the visitor site on Arlington's web page: http://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/visitor_information/index.htm
