Denis Chazelle from MORE (Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts) here.

The 2013 edition of the MoCo Epic (http://mocoepic.com) is right around the corner, on Oct 12 & 13. Now a 2-day festival built around 4 great rides on great trails in beautiful Montgomery County parks, the Epic has become the premier mountain bike event of its kind in our region.

More than 80% of the rides’ mileage (and around 90% of your riding time) will be on singletrack, and you will have no idea that you are in the middle of a major metropolitan area. 4 supported rides and kids’ activities are offered, as well as a one of a kind 2-day mountain bike festival. All rides start at the Germantown Soccerplex, across from the Schaeffer Farm mountain bike trail system:

• 25-mile, 3 parks
• 35-mile, 5 parks (MoCo South)
• 50-mile, 8 parks (MoCo North)
• 65-mile (metric century+), 11 parks
• Kids’ Activities (includes ride, bike rodeo and pump track – need to register)
• 2-day mountain bike festival will include dozens of demo bikes, multiple vendors, activities, rides, clinics, shows, etc, and a carbo-loading dinner on Saturday (separate festival registration required).
• Gigantic post ride party with free Dogfish Head Alehouse food and beer for riders and volunteers

More than 600 people are already signed up.

The ride, a fundraiser for the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (http://more-mtb.org) (MORE), is in its 4th year and has allowed the organization in the last 3 years to build an additional 12 miles of singletrack trail on the MoCo Epic loop and improve many more trails. Ranked as one of just 50 official IMBA Epics (mountain bikers’ unofficial bucket list!,) the ride is attracting mountain bike pros such as Chris Eatough and Jordan Kahlenberg. Some participants come from as far away as New Mexico, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, Indiana, Florida, New York, Connecticut, the Dominican Republic and Afghanistan.

If you cannot ride, please come and attend the Festival (registration required), or volunteer.

This is a good time. You'll want to make room on the calendar.
