The Crystal City BID is hosting Bike to Work Week.

Taken from the CCBID Website (http://www.crystalcity.org/do/bike-to-work-week2)
The Crystal City BID is challenging area commuters to take the Bike to Work WEEK (BTWW) Challenge and ride to work every day of week. During the week of May 13th - 17th the Crystal City BID will greet area commuters in the Crystal City Water Park from 7 AM to 9 AM with breakfast and prizes. The 50 riders that show up the most number of mornings during pit stop hours, will receive a free, Crystal Ride Wind Jacket! Complimentary showers will be provided by Sport & Health all week so you can freshen up before the start of your day. Sign up for the Bike to Work Week Challenge and try out your bicycle commute.

That's great! Except I need to get on the road at 6:30 to get to work on time. 7-9 only works for people riding TO Crystal City, not from it.

You are right, they do seem to be targeting the folks that work in Crystal City (which I think is great). Last year I had to work to hit the pit stop in Crystal City when it was open. I would normally blow through the Water Park about 0600 but put my miles on early and then hit the pit stop right as they opened.

Wait, so Crystal City Water Park isn't an actual water park, like with slides and stuff? I got so excited there for a minute....

The conversion table I use says 2 miles riding per 1/4 inch of cream cheese.

Hi All:

The Crystal City BID is doing Bike to Work Week again this year. We will be there everyday, rain or shine, from 7:00am to 9:00am. Stop by and say hi and grab some snacks. This year we will be giving out Crystal City Banjo Brother Backpacks to the top 50 riders. Hope to see you there.

More info on the Crystal City BID website (http://www.crystalcity.org/do/bike-to-work-week7).

Are any of the other places doing the whole week? Crystal City is about 2 hours away from me, and I hate mornings, so the likelihood I will get there before 9:00 AM is pretty slim.

I'm planning on being there every day of the week that I don't have to lead a commuter convoy (BTWD)!

Thanks to the BID for all their support of cycling.

So many near misses today!

Wrong. Scofflaws, maybe, but socialist pinkos are lazy and won't get out of bed that early even for a free government handout. ;)

It's too far away from the current location. I'll never be able to find it!

(For those unfamiliar with that area, I'm joking. It's about half a block down the street.)

They will be in front of the large painted cyclist on the wall mural. Appropriate backdrop. Just look for this guy:

I missed out on the backpack this year. I overslept one morning and didn't bother to head over. Maybe I should have rushed over there anyway.

The backpacks look nice. I did win a different triathlon backpack a couple months ago at the triathlon expo in North Bethesda. I've been using that for all of my bike commuting this spring. Works pretty well too. Doesn't mean I don't covet the CC backpacks though.

They sent an email newsletter on Tuesday about upcoming bike events, plus this:

BIKE TO WORK DAY T-SHIRT PICKUP
WHEN: Thursday, May 29th
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
WHERE: 1900 Crystal Drive (corner of 18th Street S. and Crystal Drive)
WHAT: The heavy rain on Bike to Work Day made it unsafe for some cyclists to ride in on May 16th. We have set up a location on May 29th for those unable to pick up their t-shirt on Bike to Work Day. We will also be handing out FREE Crystal City Bike Helmets for those who were not able to grab one. If riders are still not able to stop by they can visit the Tour de Fat Bicycle Festival on May 31st for an opportunity to get their BTWD t-shirt.

I wonder if they'd give us a helmet even if we showed up in a car? My wife just got a new bike today, but doesn't want to ride it until she has a helmet.

Oops, didn't see this until just now. Thanks for the offer! However, given that my wife was having to use all the padding and tighten up all of the straps in order to be able to use even a size small helmet, yours would be unlikely to fit her. (If her head were any smaller, we'd be having to shop the Hello Kitty aisle!) We did manage to get to Crystal City today, and pick up one for her there.
