I have been working with a volunteer organization Lost Dog Rescue (http://lostdogrescue.org/participate/volunteer). I bike down to Alexandria Route 1 on Sundays, and volunteer as a dog handler at an adoption even. It occurs to me that this might be a good group ride.

The Ride: The proposed ride would be from Shirlington, South on the MVT through Old Town, past Belle Haven Marina, then up through the neighborhoods to Route 1 Hybla Valley. This is about 12 miles one way. I would be starting at Glebe & Lee for an 18 mile trip. We could pick up people along the way, including the option if you want of taking the subway to old town in order to shorten the ride. I love this ride - the last time I did it was that warm Sunday when there was all that fog on the river!

Volunteering: Lost Dog Rescue is a crisis rescue league that rescues dogs from kill shelters, puppy mills, and disasters like Katrina and Sandy. You act as a dog handler (http://lostdogrescue.org/participate/volunteer) at the adoption event, showing off the dog to potential new families. It's "hard" work - for three hours you get to play with a dog! There are 12 to 22 dogs - they bring as many dogs as their are handlers. It is a fun and positive experience as you help these dogs find new homes. Last weekend Lost Dog Rescue adopted out 78 cats and dogs.

We would bike down to the Hybla Valley Petsmart - there are places for lunch down there like Moes and Noodles & Company, volunteer, and then bike back.

This is meant just as a feeler to see if people are interested. If you are interested, then I would plan this for when the weather gets a little bit warmer - like in March. If you would be interested, like this post or reply.

Stay tuned to this bat channel. Even a small amount of interest would work. Again, I would want to wait till the weather is a bit more reliable, but this could be a great thing and a glorious ride. News, announcements, declarations to follow.
