Thanks, I should have pointed that out. I got too excited trying to lure others to the dark side.

I was seduced by a Bianchi San Jose, but it's gone. Does the Motobecane have fender and rack mount eyelets? Who's a local dealer?

Yes, it has fender mounts and rack eyelets. It's sold by BikesDirect, an on-line dealer:

Hmph - well it's sold out in my size/color (black 58cm) so no impulsive decisions today. I worry, though, about the really short chainstays. My San Jose had 425mm stays, and this bike is 405mm. Too twitchy, I'd suspect. I like relaxed geometry, and the attendant handling - I'm no bike messenger

Sigh..."Bianchi San Jose" and "beater" should never be used in the same sentence. Just because it's meant to be tough and functional doesn't mean it's a beater or that it should be treated like one. I immediately decree that this person's San Jose be confiscated and turned over to me for safe keeping.

I saw this one, and even emailed the CL seller, asking whether he'd changed out the OEM chainring, since the one on the bike looked more like 47, and heard nothing.

I also winced when I saw the word "beater," and thought that anyone who rides on worn out canti pads has a quest for danger that exceeds mine.

Nashbar has a SS CX bike for $350. Has fender mounts, but not rack mounts that I can tell. Also, no flip/flop hub. 418 mm chainstays. Interrupter style brake levers rather than standard drop levers.

Here's a 58 cm. No idea if that's a good price.

Not that this one is for sale, (perhaps this should be a cross post in r/Covet...) but boy is this a nice looking SSCX:

Hey, a man can dream, right?
And by dream, I mean dream of having more than one SSCX bike.

First, I like the Cinelli-Mash webpage a lot: http://mashsf.com/cinelli_page/ -- It's completely useless as a webpage, but playing on a nice 24" monitor it looks good.

Second, yes, if I don't cheap out and go with something from All City or Milwaukee...then I hope to make this mine sometime soon:

I keep looking at this pic and gap b/w the rear wheel and seat tube is really bugging me. I wish they would've shortened the chain, personal pet peeve.

I don't know why, but I love Rotor cranks...I sooo wish I could've got one on my R3, but it would've been out of my price range.

That's WAY overpriced. It costs less than that brand new.

I love that bike though.

Crashed Kona Jake for $100. Sounds like frame is bent but maybe repairable? Vicegrip? For $100 you can part this out for another build, 105 grouppo.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/3471541533.html

(Have to check if $100 is for the whole wreck, including grouppo)

If $100 is for everything that's an epic deal. If that's still up tonight it'll be worth the beating I get from my wife when I bring the pile of parts home.

Also worth a spousal-beating (too much??) is Twin Six's 26% off SSCX frame ($666 down from $900) - alas the only size left is a 59...to big for me.

Apparently my spouse has a very high "S" number (Rule #12) http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

Also I have a confession: I found a Felt Breed SSCX on CL last weekend and didn't post it here, I kept it secret and bought it for myself.
sorry

I would to terrible things to many people for that frame. I love it. Spokes Etc had a really pretty build of that frame on their FB page recently.

$80 for a 58cm single speed, how could you go wrong for that price?

$100 for a FG/SS rear wheel with ENO eccentric hub / Mavic Open Pro rim. This is perfect for anyone who wants to try fixed gear or single speed on just about any road bike. The eccentric hub allows you to adjust chain tension with vertical dropouts.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/bik/3478111681.html

- You would have to shorten your chain
- For FG you would have to buy a cog & lockring
- For SS you would have to buy a freewheel

This is not my ad but I'm so tempted to buy this for myself (last time i did that karma bit me in the arse)
