DC DOT had planned to add 54 new stations by the end of the year. While they may still be able to add some stations this year, they probably won't add most of the planned stations until 2013.

Meanwhile, Arlington may still be able to add all of their planned stations by the spring.

From the recent e-newsletter:

Expansion Update

In the District:

At Capital Bikeshare we try to do everything we can to make our red-bike enthusiasts happy, because that makes us happy. Really, it does! And since we know that more bikes and more stations are at the very top of your wish list, we want to make sure that we get those for you as soon as we can. Our initial plan for the District was to have 54 new stations on the ground by the end of 2012. Unfortunately, due to equipment delays, we won't make that deadline.

We're sorry to hit you with this disappointing news before the holidays, but we know that you'll be pleased with this expansion once it is completed. These stations will be using the same tried and true software that has contributed to the success we've enjoyed so far. We should have a list of the planned stations in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for more updates!

A quick note about the Presidential Inauguration:

All six Capital Bikeshare stations along the parade route will be temporarily removed and placed out of service for the inauguration, in addition to two others. We are working on other Inauguration Day plans, including corrals, so we will have more information on that in the beginning of January.
