..."Remember Remember the 4th of November".

This was the day that Guy Fawkes wore tweed from head to toe and rode a bicycle through the streets of London spreading cheer to all the poor..... and if you believe that you owe me a drink!

Actually, This November 4th marks the 4th year of DC's annual Tweed Ride which for those of you that have not participated before you must not miss out! Every year hundreds of riders don tweed outfits and meander through the city in a well organized and controlled bicycle ride through DC. This year we will be concluding the ride at one of my new favorite haunts called The Brixton on U street where appropriate cocktails, food, and music will be enjoyed.

The ride is free, but you should at least sign up. The after party sells out pretty quickly and requires advanced purchase of tickets

I will even give away our bicycle mustaches for free to forum members that can find me (as long as they last).

May have chopped the chops, but still have my own righteous 80's 'stache.
Might have to join you.

I hope to have a Tweed Ride-appropriate ride one of these days, because I dig any and all social events that require dressing up in costume. :D

I still can't figure out when this is so I can't commit to it...

It appears to start at 1 PM, but darn if I can figure out where, unless we're supposed to assume the ride starts at the same place it ends...

If it's at 4pm like a little crazy drunken bird told me then I'll probably be there.

/edit - I'm wrong, it's definitely at 1pm. I'll do my best...

yeah, the ride starts at 1:00 but folks tend to start gathering around noon to flaunt their outfits and mingle. The starting location and route is kept secret. It is then emailed to all registered riders the day before. I believe this is for liability reasons as the organizers need to prepare for the amount of riders attending and prepare the authorities accordingly. I can tell you that in previous years we have started from Meridian Hill Park, but who knows this year. We are certainly ending at The Brixton and the party begins at 4:00.

After a nice lunch at Birch & Barley my wife and I were walking back to the metro and came across a bunch of people wearing old-timey clothes with a bunch of old-timey bikes. Turns out it was the starting point for the TWEED ride.

1984
1985

We did not spot any lycra, at all!

The best part of the Tweed Ride is the smiles it brings to passers-by who weren't expecting to see hundreds of vintage cyclists roll by. It's like tweed diplomacy. A few photos here: Taking to Tweed, Then the Streets (http://www.mvjantzen.com/blog/?p=2500).

1980s or 1880s?

Is anyone doing the Tweed Ride (http://dandiesandquaintrelles.com/2013/09/the-5th-annual-dc-tweed-ride-is-set-for-sunday-november-3-2013/) this weekend? Here's a photo link (http://www.demotix.com/news/2899237/around-200-participants-take-part-retro-cruise-kyiv#media-2898773[) from a similar ride in Kyiv, Ukraine earlier this month. If anyone is interested in the 2014 Kyiv ride, just let me know next September. ;)

Love it! I lived in Kyiv for a year, so I was glad to see some familiar spots included in their ride. If I win the lottery between now and next September, I'll be game for a trip to Ukraine for the ride. :)

Sorry Chris. I got back from vacation the day before the Tweed ride this year and didn't see your post until now. Yep, as always I simply put on my regular clothes and headed out. Did you manage to make it yourself? Here are a few pics:
