View Full Version : Ride to Baltimore for Kinetic Sculpture Race?

Would anyone be up for a ride to B'more for the 2012 Kinetic Sculpture Race? It's Saturday, May 5th, from 9:30am to 4:30pm. I figure I might leave College Park/Greenbelt at about 8am, leaving 2 hours to get up there at a moderate pace.

In my opinion, nothing quite brings out the full Charm City experience like this event. Our shop is closing for the day in order to pilot and support our entry, which is named "The 1 Percent." However, I could probably arrange to open up the shop for use as a mid-way pitstop in both directions. There might also be enough vehicles up there for the day that we could arrange rides/designated drivers for the trip back to Greenbelt area in the afternoon.

Route would be something like (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=9217+Baltimore+Avenue,+College+Park,+MD&daddr=39.02308,-76.90658+to:39.18033,-76.73203+to:39.2224785,-76.6726104+to:Light+St&hl=en&sll=39.288343,-76.633759&sspn=0.109743,0.222473&geocode=FQQxUwIdgiVq-ylJP0NNBcS3iTG9bY_VHrfVIA%3BFehxUwIdrH9q-yk_YTvQj8O3iTGoJw1KK5ErNA%3BFSrYVQIdgilt-ymjGh-WKuK3iTEQ_xu58eLNxQ%3BFc58VgIdnhFu-ym5NMkOZR3IiTFiugA33hIwxQ%3BFUpwVwIdKPpu-w&dirflg=b&mra=dme&mrsp=4&sz=12&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=12&lci=bike) this maybe?

Here's a clip from a prior race (our daughter was co-piloting the "shoe"):

One other note: the physics guys rode up to midtown Baltimore from College Park for this, and it took them nearly three hours (and they're pretty fast). So Todd and I have decided to leave Greenbelt at least an hour earlier -- like around 7am to get to B'more inner harbor in time for the start.

Will be interesting to see if The 1% floats or sinks under its own weight and has to be bailed out by the 99%...

18. The 1% is a comic look at the widening divide
between the Haves and the Have-Nots. Sponsored by
Proteus Bicycles, this 2-pilot entry is reportedly cast of
solid gold, using wood from endangered rainforests for
cupholders, and seat cushions made from Donald
Trump hairpieces wrapped in baby seal skins.
