For the last couple months, I've enjoyed our informal, ad-hoc group rides out of College Park/Greenbelt. Nice to meet some fellow forum folks (fffs).

Last Sunday, it turned out to be a bit colder than expected, but we had a nice 20+ mile loop in the Beltsville farms (video clips (http://vimeo.com/35485466)). In December and on New Year's, we took rides in to DC (video: shopping (http://vimeo.com/33555252), Hains Point (http://http://vimeo.com/34447920)).

Rather than occasionally posting impromptu rides, however, I thinking about just setting a regular schedule.

I like the Sunday afternoon rides, so I thinking about something like this:

First Sunday of the month (Feb 5 next month, maybe 1pm-3pm): Beltsville farms and Patuxent wildlife refuge, map: 22 miles with rest stop halfway at the refuge visitor's center (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/896301)

Third Sunday of the month (Feb 19 next month, maybe 12:30pm-4pm): College Park to DC, map: downtown and Capitol Hill with lunch stop at Eastern Market (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/917630)

I was also thinking about maybe adding a 50 miler (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/914403)at some point that showed off some of the VA trails. If people wanted, we could do this longer ride occasionally, perhaps with a little earlier start, or maybe on a Saturday of an otherwise off week? Or maybe just try this guy on the 19th, when many of us will have a holiday the following Monday to recover?

Any feedback or suggestions on routes/dates/times? -Jeff

Greenbelt,

I think this is a great idea (I really enjoyed the Holiday shopping ride in December). My only regret (Dear Lord) is that Mass will spike my ability to make any Sunday events.

Maybe I should alternate Saturdays and Sundays. We could get started earlier on Saturdays too. Hmmm... Let me think about this.

I'm up for anything running down the MBT into or through the city. Plus I'm a heathen so Sundays are fine by me. Mt Vernon is a great ride but might get a bit long from Greenbelt.

OK, while we decide on the best dates and times for a more regular schedule, we're going to go ahead with this Sunday's ride in the Beltsville farms. The weather looks decent (famous last words) with highs in the mid 40s.

Date/time/pace: Sunday Feb 5, 1pm-3:30pm. 22 miles, moderate/relaxed, no drop pace. Rest stop at half way point.

Route/elevation: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/896301

Start/finish: Proteus bikes at 9217 Baltimore Blvd. College Park, MD 20740 301.441.2928

Bike directions to shop: see this earlier thread from last week's ride (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?1657-Sunday-Jan-22-ride-in-Beltsville-Ag-Research-Center-and-Patuxent-Wildlife-Refuge).

Scenery to expect (though we're not expecting snow this weekend!): http://vimeo.com/35485466

Greenbelt riders who want to go over to the shop with us can meet us at the New Deal cafe at 12:30pm.

Come any, come all. -Jeff

Forgot the video camera today, but got some some sketchy cellphone pictures from today's ride (the photography is sketchy, not the subject matter). The weather turned out good, and lots of people came out to ride. Excellent day! -Jeff

Go to Saturday 5pm Mass!

Excellent suggestion (and a favorite Mass of mine when I was a kid), but our current Parish only runs one big Mass on the weekends and my Bride sings in the choir. As much as I love biking, I love the Bride more....
