Greetings inhabitants of the planet earth...

I was talking with my Rice Krispies this morning and they told me to go to the Proteus Thursday Night Potluck. Anyone want to join me and my cargo bike on this quest? From downtown it is about 14 miles and it winds through neighborhoods and bike paths. Pot Luck is from 7-9pm. That has us getting home late. Good lights are strongly recommended.

I'll be leaving from the Freedom Plaza fountain at about 5:15pm.

This is roughly the route there: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/784592
And roughly the route home: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/797417

Let me know if you'd like to join.

Hugs and kisses,

Pete

@Greenbelt: You planning on going to this?

Yes, Laurie and I will be there. The mac and cheese is not to be missed. I'll see if I can get off work early and join your group. Otherwise, probably see you around 7. -Jeff

Follow up -- there's a rumor the shop's going to try to put together an entry in the Baltimore kinetic sculpture race. Another event not to be missed:

I would like to do the potluck when the clocks have changed and there is more daylight for the ride. ;)

Coolness. As of right now "The Group" consists of just the 7 of us.... Me and my imaginary friends.

We'll do more of these when the daylight gets longer. I'm on a mission tonight, so I'm going with lights. Luckily I can work from home tomorrow.

Same here. I've never ridden up that way.

OK to meet on the Penn. Ave bike track on the way? I can be out on the Penn. Ave bike lane in front of the Newseum at about 5:20 or so if you want to meet up for the ride out to MD. Two huge green panniers and yellow helmet. I'll recognize the big dummy (the bike, of course) -Jeff

See you in front of the Newseum at 1720hours. I'll be on The Dummy.

Uh, if I read that correctly, you're hauling that big dummy up and down a giant flight of stairs (http://g.co/maps/bge95) between L and M :)

Thanks for a great ride, Greenbelt. We had a lot of fun and a great ride home. I rolled into the barn just after 2300 hours as I'd hoped.

Riding to College Park makes far a dang long work day, but WOW was it worth it. Jill and her crew put on a really fun evening. What an amazing shop. :D

Was a beautiful night for riding. What Dirt doesn't mention is that he hauled a bikeload of no-longer-used unicycle stuff up to give to a Proteus mechanic who's an avid unicyclist. Thanks so much!

Seeing the smile on his face made my day. :D

I also didn't mention that I had to chase all the way back to DC and ended up getting a dang good workout out of it. :D

It was a beautiful night for a ride. Great company too. It was the most lively Proteus pot luck in memory - no mac and cheese, but great chili and beer instead. Thanks, Pete, for making the trip with the unicycle. Ben (aka "the bike whisperer") was absolutely stunned and thrilled to get the unicycle. I'm sure he'll be riding it through the shop soon.... I love the generosity of the cycling community! -- Laurie

I guess this means we'll never see a video of Dirt riding a unicycle while wearing the infamous pink Forever Lazy suit....

Yeah... That may not happen. After an injury, I've given away all of my unicycles because I can't ride them anymore.

Stay tuned to the Pajama Jeans test!!! https://www.pajamajeans.com

The good news is that they have a special web site so that you can buy PajamaJeans in Canada!!! ;)

Not to dampen your impulse to cross dress, but there are only women depicted in the commercial. The inseam is going to be a little short.

I'm not understanding the problem here....

I'm not understanding the problem here....

The ad says, "Inseam Length 31" for all sizes."

However, I believe Pete has already asserted that he can sew, so maybe he is planning an extension on the bottom hems or some more sophisticated fix.

Dear Dirt,

Does the phrase, "a skosh more room" ring a bell?

PS - To eminva: Sophisticated?

I'm riding out to talk about TJROW tomorrow if anyone wants to join me. I won't be on the cargo bike... gonna take the bling-mobile. :D

Have a good night.

Hey Dirt, about when were you thinking of leaving? Tomorrow looks to be too nice a day not to ride.

(would it be the same route as you posted on the first page?)

I'm heading over there tonight from DC at about 6:15pm from the Newseum (6th and Penn NW) area. Is that near when you're going?

Greetings. Sorry that I've been slow in responding. It has been a cRaZy day today. :D

My timing is flexible. I was gonna spin a few laps at Hains Point to loosen up the legs a little and head to College park around 5 or 5:30.

This is the approximate route that I usually take: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/784592

This is how I get home: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/797417

I'll probably hang there until 8:30 or so before heading home. That get's be back to Falls Church a little before 11pm.

I've got Bikes Belong and People for Bikes T-shirts and a jersey to give away in association with #TJROW. :D

Hmm, I might be able to make it to the start point of the map (Union station) by 5:30. If I'm not there, don't wait up.

Suite!

We'll be at the intersection of 2nd and F Streets NE at 5:30pm. I'll be the freakishly tall (though 1" freakishly shorter than Tim) guy riding a fancy-pants road bike. With Tim and Mark having made mincemeat out of my legs at Hains Point, I'll likely be sweaty and making gerbil noises. Sorry about that ahead of time.

Hahaha, looking forward to it.
I'll be riding a hipster fixed gear in that amazing kit of mine..an awkward combination I know, but that's what I get for having the wrong bike in the car and being late for work.

And I'll be keeping an eye on my shoulder during the ride so I may or may not bail if it starts to bother me.

Been there with the shoulder issues. I'm fortunate to not have any issues at the moment. *knock on wood*

It was weird getting on the geared bike this morning after many weeks on the fixie.

Awesome to ride with SpokeGrenadSR last night. Very cool to meet you!

Thanks so much to Arlingtonrider who came out to see us off. Nice to see you, as always.

Greenbelt and the people at Proteus are beyond awesome. Words can't begin to describe how great that place is. :D

Great ride, amazing weather, fun people.. glad I came out.
If I'm able to go up again I'll make sure to have some food to offer the potluck.
