You can buy anything on Craigslist these days. I bought my new bike on craigslist, and love it.

So here's my problem. If I type in "bike rack" on craigslist, I get a lot of noise about car racks. What I am looking for is bike parking racks. Inverted Us or something like that, used. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to look for used bike parking racks - any idea of sources?

Been doing a lot of talking with people about bike parking lately. And so I have been noticing how many inverted U racks are just everywhere in Arlington!! Wow. Racks at Pentagon City full yesterday. Racks at W&L full this morning. Racks at Kenmore, well, not so much. Racks at all the new bus stations! Even racks going in at 7 corners. Kinda amazing

Ouch - biking in and around Seven Corners. I'll leave that to the braver folks.

I rarely have a problem finding decent bike parking in Arlington now that I think about it; however, what totally perplexes me is the complete lack of racks on M Street in Georgetown (the one rack by Dean & Deluca is way too small to handle the demand).

Anyway.....

This should help you with installation as well as picking out important keywords to google in your search.

I doubt there are many used racks available.....though you could go this route instead:

Hmmmmm....I wonder if I can convince my apartment building to install bike lockers....sure would be nice to get the bike out of my living room.

If I remember correctly, every once in a while you'll see something here or on washcycle about a jurisdiction or building replacing its bike parking... I wonder if you could contact them to see what they're doing with their old ones...

I may be in the market for some myself, so if you find a way to get used ones, please update us. Thanks!

You can add -car -suv -truck -roof -hitch to the search to exclude results with those words.

The one my D&D is def always full. You might crossing the canal bridge toward the water from the D&D rack. There is a barely used rack where Potomac Street meets Grace St. There is also a set of racks cross M in the opposite direction at Potomac and Prospect.

West Falls Church Outlet Center did a complete refurb of the whole shopping center. It is lovely. I suggested bike parking many times in the process and was completely ignored. Now I just send them obnoxious e-mails now and then telling them how I'm not using their shopping center 'cause there's nowhere to park. I'm gonna be the most awesome grumpy old man when/if I grow up. :D I'm gonna write my congressman!

Yarp. Happy that is closer to home. With the dummy, bike parking isn't a huge deal. Most places I go, I can just lock it in place. It isn't gonna go anywhere. That is one place that I'm fine with just locking it out front. They have a new pet store that is pretty good and a Rite Aid that charges double for everything when compared to CVS.

Bruggher's Bagels will be open very soon. Its a good thing.

On the brighter side of things, last Thursday at the WABA Summit, I heard Metro is planning on a "Bike & Ride" facility at the Vienna Metro station. I saw photographs of a similar facility in College Park, it is a secure building with about 120 spaces for bikes to be stored inside a card-access building.

Having a secure place to park a bike outside of the weather is a great addition to the Metro system.

On another note, it was interesting to hear Metro's position that anything that improves access for bicycles has a similar effect for improving access for the disabled. If a bike can safely navigate an area, so can a wheelchair or other assistive device. I had not thought of our two communities having similar interests in this regard, perhaps something to leverage in the future.

Oh look, the sun is shining....I'm gonna go jump on my bike.

I grew up on Brueggers from their first store in Troy, NY! Super excited I won't have to go to DC anymore! Also, a step up from Manhattan Bagel where we currently get our Whole Wheat Everything Bagels.

There's a Bruegger's Bagels in Ballston, on Quincy and Wilson, across from Conte's/Freshbikes.
