Interesting article in the Guardian about unregulated bike share (https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2017/mar/22/bike-wars-dockless-china-millions-bicycles-hangzhou) companies in China. The bikes have GPS chips/smartlocks to permit parking anywhere. Complaints about dump piles (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/17/chinese-discard-hundreds-of-cycles-for-hire-in-giant-pile) of these bikes have dampened initial enthusiasm - one commenter on the Guardian mentioned a joke circulating on Weibo is how reporting these dumped bikes is the new Pokemon Go. One of these companies Bluegogo is attempting (http://www.sfexaminer.com/permit-deadline-possible-sanctions-loom-bluegogo-bike-share-company/) to enter the US market in San Francisco to compete with Bay Area Bike Share.
