From an email I received today:

"Arlington County will work with contractors to install automatic counting equipment at three locations on the Mt. Vernon Trail and its connections. Trail users should be aware of likely temporary detours and be prepared for possible short trail closures.

The three locations are:
1) on the Mt. Vernon Trail mainline near the South parking lot of Washington National Airport;
2) on the "Crystal City Connector" between Crystal City and National Airport, and;
3) at the North end of the Theodore Roosevelt Island parking lot, at the base of the bridge connecting to Rosslyn and the Key Bridge.

The work will take place over three days from Wednesday, August 31, to Friday, September 2."

The counter at the south end of the airport was done during the day yesterday. No disruption to the evening commute. Is there any reason no counter is being put on the 14th St Bridge connection?

It appears the Crystal City Connector (is that the official name?) was largely installed today between the GW Parkway tunnel and the railroad tunnel. 6x6 post in ground alongside the trail and possibly cables across trail.
