How had I never heard of this super cool Maine to Key West biking project before? Check it out.

Check it out.

I'd not only heard of it, I've ridden a good majority of the Maryland section. Much of it is on road, but they use trail systems whenever possible, and I learned about some trails I didn't know existed by following the ECG. Also some really cool, low-stress routes to get into the city of Baltimore and Annapolis.

Most recently, they closed the last gap crossing the Susquehanna River. You're now allowed to ride across the Hatem Bridge (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-hatem-bridge-bicycle-lane-20160701-story.html) (during certain times of day). I think it used to require a car shuttle.

You can download route maps (http://www.greenway.org/explore/maps) from ECG, and occasionally you'll see printed copies of them by state. They're also working on a phone app.

As I understand it, the ECG is still far less developed and detailed in the southern states, you'll see a lot of gap areas and "trail route sought" on the maps. It's largely work being done by volunteers, so support them by going exploring!

The East Coast Greenway is one of those bicycle routes that you'll see the odd sign for if you're on the right trails, at least in my experience.

There is also the U.S. Bicycle Route System: https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/us-bicycle-route-system/ The East Coast Greenway and U.S. Bicycle Route 1 both seem to follow the same path between Maine and Florida, though.

Honestly, I just love looking at this map of the USBRS because it looks like a bicycle version of the interstate system: http://bicycletouringroutes.com/system.php?systemid=1 It makes me want to do more multi-day interstate rides.

I rode a portion of it on an Annapolis and Baltimore adventure with Komorebi and LeprosyStudyGroup. The portion we rode was very scenic and fit the word Greenway well.

I learned about it six months ago - super exciting! Hoping to ride segments of it in MD, PA, and NY soon.
